Don't worry about it, really. I sort of just did the same thing to someone else, so I don't have a lot of room to talk anymore.

You're not getting a reassignment just because you're being told the truth.

And we're going to talk this out. Whether you want it here or in person is your choice, but that's your only choice.

No, you see, threatening to air my history and acting as though I'd never before acknowledged my own hand in things-- when in fact I had, repeatedly, over the course of two years-- is why I don't wish to have anything to do with you.

You certainly don't seem to be willing to acknowledge that Jim might be a monster of your own making.

And I didn't threaten. I asked you. If "acknowledging" were enough, then it wouldn't matter if your history was known here, and nobody that has your best interests at heart is going to think less of you, since a lot of the time you show that that is not you when you're at your best. If you're worried about how it would make you look if more people knew, then have you considered how it makes you look when you hide it from people?

That's because he isn't. I won't take responsibility for his choices.

It isn't their business. We don't discuss our "crimes".

It's a lot easier to slam the system and its purpose when the lot of you can just pretend you didn't do anything to wind up here.

Did it ever occur to you that we don't wish to think about the Barge all the time? That our time with each other is a break from you and your system?

And I gotta tell you, picking fights really eats into your break time.

The fight would have happened regardless of my taunts. If not then, then the first time we saw one another unattended.

And you wouldn't have wound up in zero provided you didn't openly invite violence.

I mean -- Jesus, Henry. You know what he'd just come from. You've been away from that for two years; you don't have an excuse.

I have no sympathy for him, just as he would not have had any for me, were the tables turned.

Because nobody has been able to help him yet. That's what he's here for. But if you're going to show yourself as a man who has bettered himself since that time, then you have to know that he is entitled to the same understanding and tolerance that you are commonly afforded by the few people that do know your circumstances.

You could both benefit from at least attempting to empathize with the particular thoughts and events that landed you in such desperate states.

You'll try, and you'll be the first to try, because not only have you had time to develop, but you owe it to that woman and that girl. To better understand them you should understand the man whom they trusted and who in the end ultimately saved them.

Not right now. I saw the way he came at you, Henry. But then I also saw the way you came at me. You two aren't ready. Not unsupervised, and I wouldn't allow it given what's happened in the past.
