If "acknowledging" were enough, then it wouldn't matter if your history was known here, and nobody that has your best interests at heart is going to think less of you, since a lot of the time you show that that is not you when you're at your best. If you're worried about how it would make you look if more people knew, then have you considered how it makes you look when you hide it from people?
