...I swear I'm not usually this absent-minded, but has anyone seen King Charles? It's occurring to me that I haven't seen him since before the flood.

This is probably gonna sound odd and feel free not to answer me if you're like the rest of us and wanting to forget this shit -- but I could recall just about everybody and understand how the change came over. But you. I don't get you. What was up with you in that world?

(ooc: So King Charles -- Morgan's Monkey -- is probably huddled up somewhere and has been for most of the flood. Unlike other pets that may have disappeared I think there was a Mirrorverse version of him too. And this pet was just -- unaffected. And likely moved into the pantry when none of the bad guys were looking. But people can feel free to find him just about anywhere that's warm.)

Speaking of the here and now. [She glances up at him briefly.] Are you and Billy still fighting?

No. Death wiped the slate clean.

[Morgan sighed.] Then I'm glad it meant you weren't coming back to more problems, at least. [She shifted in her seat.] But other than your disapproval of your other self's survival instincts, has it given you much to think about? Everybody kind of got to see the road less traveled, y'know?

It showed me that no matter what I'd done, it would have ended the same way.

Of course. [She nods.] There I don't think you got the same opportunities, though -- which is a damn shame, and I hope things start to turn there. [For the moment she can't think about the fact that the other her wasn't intending to bring him back to life for a long time.] For your men -- here, you saved one, after all. I didn't save him; I just have his idiot twin running around now.

One of the newer wardens is his twin.

Eeh... [Morgan held her head for a moment.] And I can tell just by how you talk about him that he's positively charming.

He's a bit of an idiot, that's all. I don't know anything else, really. To attempt to talk to him would be painful.

Probably better for your nerves, in any case.

[He makes a non-committal "mm" at that] I suppose.

[By this point she's gotten something of a distant look in her eyes.] I'm not that bad, am I?

[She wrings her hands.] I keep thinking that it didn't take much for me to turn out like I was there.

Isn't that the case with most of us? Just one, small choice changes the entire course of a life.

[She nodded.] And I'm sure there are Wardens here who feel a lot more guilty than I do. It just makes me feel ugly.

It was just another flood, Morgan. [Of course, he doesn't entirely feel that way, but he's not in the mood to be too open right now-- especially with Morgan, much as he'll never admit it]

Yeah, and the colony was just another port. [She bites her lip. She'd almost mentioned a different location but decided to stick with the familiar.] But yeah, it was. And if anything I want to think I've learned a few things at least. [A look.] When Ralph Cifaretto had that tiff with Billy, I took it as just another thing you should learn to ignore. I didn't really understand why it was such a big deal beyond that, or really think much about it until I woke up after this flood and remembered how people treated it in that world. It made me feel a little sick. [She takes a breath through her nose.] I am genuinely sorry that I not only failed to stick up for you, but that I lectured and punished you over it.

[He's more than a little surprised at the apology, and for a moment, he doesn't bother to hide it in his expression.]

That's...

[He blinks.]

Thank you. It really... means a lot to me.

[Morgan messes with her hair again, embarrassed.] You're on kind of a long list of people I'm probably going to wind up apologizing to at some point in the next week. But I mean that. Seeing all of that showed me I could be a lot worse but it doesn't really make me forget that I could be a lot better, too.

I'd just rather forget about this flood, myself.
