Nothing bad has come of it yet, thankfully, but I would appreciate it in the future that if Wardens are going to bring my Inmate to the pub or bring the pub to him, then speak to me before doing so. Major West doesn't have his own monthly supply of liquor for a reason, which some of you should have understood or at least questioned with the very fact that he was asking for an escort.

Aw, calm down. The guy just wanted a drink. I don't blame him-- I often feel as though I should be drinking more than I do.

The guy has a drinking problem when he's not watched carefully.

And that is why a warden has to control his alcohol consumption. I don't think anyone would bring an inmate, say, six bottles of Everclear, no matter how dysfunctional we might be.

And at the end of the day, when it's my Inmate, it's my call on how to handle it.

Do you need me to make sure Prefect doesn't sell him any?

It's a good idea in the longrun, but I don't think there is a risk for it yet. If it'd occurred to him that he could purchase it through Prefect, I don't think he would have posted asking a Warden to get him up to the pub, y'know?

Good point. Hopefully he won't discover Prefect's seemingly endless supply of gin.

Or I might be lucky and he hates the stuff.

For all I hear that around here, I'm having less and less reason to believe it.

Look, I'm not going to say I know your Inmate as well as you do, or that I've even been the tip-top of attentiveness lately. But I saw how he reacted when you disappeared.

He needs you, Sam.

Yeah, 'course, until Sylar inevitably returns or there's another individual who suddenly becomes fixated on Prefect and makes it a mission to undo any progress I've made. I'm really getting tired of it, Morgan. I'm tired of waiting for the same old thing to happen over and over again.

How can anybody here stand it?

We stand it if our Inmates our worth it.

Right. I know. I just feel like for every step we make, everything around us is trying to push him back three more steps.

It feels pointless.

Anyway, enough about that.

But it's not pointless. I know it feels that way at times. But they won't choose to better themselves if there isn't at least one person that won't give up on them.

How's your Inmate doing?

He's -- to put it the way he puts it -- "well". All that insanity when he came back aside, I think he's not necessarily coming to a state of contentment, but he's finding a pace, I guess.

Contentment is difficult to come by, even for the happiest-seeming people.

But making such a thing even possible, here, makes it an environment where a person can embrace change.

I'm all ears.

I know you have your own Inmate to look after, but after our talk the other day, I started thinking on it. Major West has problems that I may simply be unequipped to properly address right now. I thought, if you were willing, he might benefit from talks with you.

I'd be willing to give it a try, but I can't guarantee anything.

That's all I'm asking.

If you're sure it's all right, I'll speak to him about it and get back to you.
