How long until I have to leave the infirmary? I don't know if I can go back to my room

[Private to the Fourth Doctor]

Doctor -- I just want you to know I wasn't planning to do that when I went down there. I know that doesn't mean much, and I'd tell you I'm sorry, but I really don't know how I feel about much of anything right now. But thank you for looking after me when I -- whatever I did.

[Morgan's initial reaction was sudden, given how utterly 'blah' her stance had been thus far. She returned the gesture when he leaned toward her. After a moment to realize that it still didn't feel close enough, she all but climbed onto him, wrapping her arms around him and finding some spot in his shoulder to hide her eyes.]

'm sorry. [She mumbles.] Just need a moment.

[As Morgan climbed on him, Adam remained still, eyes widening a moment. Then, he calmed down and patted Morgan on the back. A moment. He could give her that.]

I understand. Don't worry. It's all over.

[Morgan shut her eyes, breathed him in. It wasn't quite so intimate as the gesture might have appeared at first glance. He wasn't her. Not all of the memories she had of him were pleasant ones, but they were her memories. It was something for her to grasp onto. But thinking about them made them feel distant. Simpler things, like touch or smell -- those were smaller, but closer. Easier to hold onto.]

If it's over then why don't I feel like me anymore?

I don't know. I'm sorry, but I honestly don't know.

[He knew next to nothing about the Borg. He wished that he could help comfort Morgan. He wished that he knew what to say. But all he could do was hold her close and say that it wouldn't happen again.]

[Something occurrs to her then -- something she hasn't wanted to think of, as it had been information that passed through her brain during that time -- that Adam had spoken with the Queen. He had tried to bargain her back. Her hold tenses a little.]

You tried to come for us.

[She doesn't even think about the 'us' part, but had she been in a better state she might have said 'me' instead.]

[Adam paused. He came for her? Well...sort of. First and foremost, he wanted to go for himself. If the Queen gave him his power back then he hopefully would have just popped out the Borg bits. Saving Morgan was just part of that plan...even though he wanted to do it. He actually cared for her and Elle. He didn't want them to be Borgs. He just cared for himself first.]

Yeah.

[Right now, Adam felt really uncomfortable about lying.]

You didn't have to do that. [Of course if she had been self-aware at the time she would have been touched. ..And she supposes she sort of is now, though she doesn't fully understand it.]

Yeah I did. You were a Borg. [He says this matter-of-factly, as if it doesn't matter.]

[She had been. This was true. Morgan thought of when the Queen had attacked her with a wince.]

They're not going to let me go on looking after West after this. [Of course, then there was the conversation she had with her Inmate after it was all over.] He's afraid of me.

He's not afraid of you. [Honestly, Adam had no idea if West was afraid of Morgan or not. He just wanted to talk to her.]

Look, West and I are friends. I can ask him what he thinks about all this if you want, alright?

[She nods against him.] Thanks. [She sits back finally, feeling more -- was the word she wanted 'calm?'. She could argue she was already very calm. 'Settled' is better. 'More human' even more accurate.] And for trying to help me.

What kind of person would I be if I didn't try to help you? [He leaned over and gave her a slight kiss on the cheek.] Just get better soon, alright?
